What can I expect in a naturopathy consult?

On your first visit, a comprehensive health assessment is performed exploring all of your body systems functioning, personal health history, family history, dietary assessment and lifestyle habits.

Naturopathic consultations differ from orthodox medical appointments, as they are longer in duration and allow time for a full health assessment. The goal of your initial consultation is to find out as much information about your health so a naturopathic care plan can be tailored individual to your health needs.

Naturopathic assessment will be performed to determine your nutritional status, health, vitality and underlying constitutional factors which affect your overall health and wellbeing. These tests may include a zinc taste test, nail and tongue analysis, iridology, blood pressure, and more.

Additional functional pathology testing may also be recommended (at extra cost).

What is Nutritional Medicine?

Nutritional medicine encompasses a holistic and individualised approach to health. Unfortunately the typical diet of the 21st century involves an overload processed foods and a deficiency of nourishing wholefoods. Making small changes over a period of time helps to promote optimal health as well as preventing disease. Some nutritional therapies that are offered include:

  • Personalised meal plans, including recipes

  • High Quality Practitioner Strength Supplements

  • Specialised diets including Elimination diet; FODMAP Diet; Anti- Candida Diet; GFDF and more

  • Removal of individualised 'trigger' foods from the diet

  • Functional Pathology

what is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal Medicine is the practice of using therapeutic doses of herbal extracts to invoke a healing action in the body. Only high quality, practitioner only herbal supplements are used to ensure maximum effectiveness. Herbal Medicine may affect the way some prescription medications work, so always check with your qualified practitioner before taking any new natural medicines.

what is Lifestyle advice?

Lifestyle choices play a major role in health & wellness and are therefore a big focus in all treatment plans. Lifestyle factors that will be addressed during a consultation include:

  • Dietary Advice

  • Exercise Advice

  • Quit Smoking and other addictive substances

  • Stress relief techniques

what TESTING can you do?

Functional pathology tests are used to investigate functional, biochemical, nutritional, metabolic and hormonal status. The results provide essential information to assist the practitioner in the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients seeking a holistic approach to health. Functional Pathology testing provides a tool for early intervention, management and monitoring of ongoing treatment efficacy. Labs used at JWN include Nutripath; RN Labs; QML.

Commonly recommended testing in my clinic include:

  • DUTCH Testing

  • OATS Testing

  • Salivary Hormones

  • Complete Digestive Stool Analysis (CDSA)

  • Genetic Testing (single SNPs & Wellness Profiles Available)

  • Pyrolle Testing (urinary)

  • Metabiome (Microbiome Testing)
